Located in the heart of Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District, Trefethen Family Vineyards is one of the region’s most historic and respected family-owned wineries. The estate traces its roots back to the late 1800's and has been lovingly restored and farmed by the Trefethen family since the late 1960s.
Today, the winery is recognized not only for its elegant, estate-grown wines but also for its long-standing commitment to sustainable farming and preserving Napa Valley’s agricultural heritage. Every wine produced at Trefethen is grown and crafted on their estate in the Oak Knoll AVA, allowing the winery to showcase the unique character and balance that this cooler Napa Valley region is known for.
One of the most memorable ways to experience the winery is through the Collectors Cabernet Experience, a seated tasting held inside the historic and beautifully restored 1886 Eshcol Winery. Normally priced at $70 per person, this tasting showcases four estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons, highlighting the depth and aging potential of Trefethen’s vineyards, including their iconic HāLo Cabernet.
With the 2026 Napa Vine Pass, guests receive $25 off the Collectors Cabernet Experience, making it the perfect opportunity to explore some of the winery’s most collectible wines while enjoying the rich history of one of Napa Valley’s landmark estates.
Wine Review: 2021 Estate Malbec -- Trefethen Family Vineyards

The 2021 Estate Malbec pours a deep purple in the glass. Aromas of blackberry, black plum, and dark cherry lead the nose, along with hints of oak, mint, leather, and dried spice.
On the palate, the wine shows medium-plus intensity with a supple body and medium tannins. At 14.6% alcohol, it carries a bit of heat, while the oak adds notes of vanilla and chocolate alongside savory touches of forest floor and minerality. The fruit leans ripe, with a slightly jammy character balanced by a lift of acidity on the finish.
With its structure and oak influence, this Malbec should age well for up to 15 years, allowing the tannins and oak to soften and integrate further.
Overall, it’s a rich, expressive Napa Valley Malbec with plenty to like.
